Shenannigans St. Patrick’s Race Day Abandoned
19/03/2018

On behalf of the Darwin Turf Club Board, I hope all are safe and well following the visit from Tropical Cyclone Marcus on Saturday. Fannie Bay Race Course has a fair bit of damage, as is the rest of Darwin and surrounds.

“Due to this damage from Tropical Cyclone Marcus, we regret to advise that the Shenannigans St. Patrick’s Race Day that was programmed for Saturday 17th March and then postponed to Wednesday 21st March, will now be abandoned as we aim to make the track safe again.” Said Darwin Turf Club Chairman, Brett Dixon.

There are large sections of our running rail damaged, large trees fallen around the course and to date no power to the course.

The Chief Executive Officers of the Darwin Turf Club(DTC) and Thoroughbred Racing Northern Territory(TRNT), Keith Stacy and Andrew O’Toole are working alongside Chief Stewart, David Hansler to address all the issues and power outages on track.

Management and Industry have been working together over the weekend and today ,therefor, the Darwin Turf Club are pleased to confirm The Shenannigans St Patrick’s Cup will be run on Thursday 29th March with some other small modifications to the programme.

“Due to the hard work of Keith, Andrew, David and all the trainers they have made sure returns to the Industry are kept intact.” Brett says

In the interim, Keith and his team will be doing all they can, to get the track and race course repaired,  so we can accept all back to a safe environment as soon as possible.
