About The Competition

The Great Northern Darwin Cup Carnival is known for bold fashion, vibrant colour and effortless elegance. Runway to Race Day is your opportunity to bring that spirit to life by creating a standout race‑wear look that captures the essence of Darwin – relaxed, creative and unforgettable!

This Emerging Fashion Designer Competition invites young designers to create a race‑wear outfit that reflects Darwin’s unique lifestyle: relaxed yet confident, creative yet wearable, and designed for heat, movement and impact on race day.

We’re searching for fresh creativity and bold ideas from emerging designers ready to take their next step.

What You Could Win

The selected designer will receive:

  • The opportunity to design a race‑wear outfit for the 2026 Darwin Cup Carnival Ambassador
  • One‑on‑one mentorship with Darwin fashion designer Marcia Russell (Black Cat Couture)
  • Hands‑on guidance through the design and creation process with Marcia
  • Their final design produced and worn by the Darwin Cup Carnival Ambassador at the 2026 Rydges Palmerston Ladies Day Luncheon
  • Valuable industry exposure and portfolio experience
  • Two tickets to attend the 2026 Rydges Palmerston Ladies Day Luncheon (T&C’s apply).

The winner will be selected by a panel of judges and mentored through to race day.

Who Can Enter

  • Students aged 21 or under
  • Currently in high school or tertiary education
  • Residing in the Top End

How to Apply

To enter the 2026 Runway to Race Day, applicants must complete the below application form as well as upload a design concept that responds to the submission requirements here.
