The Darwin Turf Club extends its congratulations to the two winners of last year’s Melbourne Cup Fashions on Your Front Lawn, who each hail from Darwin.
Darwin Turf Club chief executive officer Brad Morgan said he wasn’t surprised, with Darwin known to be extremely competitive on the national stage when it comes to Fashions on the Field.
“We have had some extraordinary winners and outfits over the years, with our Ladies’ Day in the TAB Pavilion becoming synonymous with high fashion,” he said.
“Darwin Cup Day is no exception, with outstanding outfits coming to win the top prize of the carnival.”
The Territory reigned supreme in the competition – which was the first of its kind due to COVID-19 restrictions, with the winner of both the men’s and women’s competition being regulars at the Darwin Turf Club.
Today, they each picked up their winning prize – a Lexus UX250H, as well as a $4500 Myer Gift Card, luggage from Ampler and a TCL 8K television.
Winner of the women’s category Christine Spielmann said she was incredibly excited after her purple pantsuit won.
“It was a huge shock, and it was even more shocking because Sherlon Garbo won the men’s so it was amazing that two NT people won,” she said.
“I love Fashions on the Field because I can create different looks with so many different elements. It’s not just the dress and the hat, it’s the accessories and making all those elements balance.”
Ms Spielmann will be judging Fashions on the Field during the 2021 Great Northern Darwin Cup Carnival, with more information to be released in the coming months.
