NOIR DE RUE, having his first start since a brave fourth in the Darwin Cup on August 1, showed his undoubted class with a barnstorming win in the BTC Constructions Handicap, feature event at Fannie Bay on Melbourne Cup Day.

Trained by Jason Manning and with regular partner Vanessa Arnott in the saddle, Noir De Rue began well but was soon after headed by the Phil Cole-trained stablemate Military Zone and Cielo D’Oro, who set up a solid pace in the 1300 event.

Arnott was urging away on the top weight – giving away 3.5kg and more to his four rivals – and on the point of the home, turn had closed to within three lengths of the pace-makes after giving away five or six lengths with 650m to run.
