Neil Dyer, a regular visitor to the Darwin Cup Carnival for more than 15 years, continued his love affair with Fannie Bay track when saddling Munster for a dominant win in the feature $40,000 Jaytex Construction Cup on day 6 of the event on Wednesday.

It was Dyer’s third win in the race – he won it with Pot Black in 2018 and Carlingford in 2021 – and completed a good day for the stable after Latest Bentley had taken the opening event on the card.

Both were ridden by Aaron Sweeney, who has created a good impression in the Top End and is considering staying on after Carnival.

There was pace aplenty in the feature, with Versetto, Throw At Da Stumps, Bullinachinashop, Swing With Junior and New Roman five-wide down the back, and Sweeney had Munster coiled up behind them just awaiting clear air.

He moved through stylishly along the inner approaching the home turn, then angled across heels and into the clear as the field straightened.

in a twinkling it was all over, Munster dashing clear to win by five lengths from Mathematics, who ran on strongly from back in the field, with Versetto sticking on best of the leading brigade to take third.
