Victorian takes apprentices series leg

PREMIER trainer Gary Clarke had a day out at Fannie Bay on Saturday, saddling up a treble, including both legs of the National Apprentice Race Series held in the NT for the first time in nine years.

Thunder Peak, ridden by Jade Hampson, won in the last stride on the inside to deny Archie James (Emma Lines) in the first leg of the National Apprentice Race Series (1200m).

However, Archie James was unlucky, a slipped saddle making it a difficult ride for Lines, who was stood down after suffering heat stress in the torrid ride.

Colhoun, ridden by Victorian apprentice Matthew Chadwick, finished third, giving the first of the points-scoring apprentices home top points in the first leg.
