Four days after winning the AUFS Chief Minister’s Cup with Bear Story, Neil Dyer and Noel Callow were again feature face winners when Hettinger bounced back to his brilliant best in the $50,000 Toyota Finance Cup (1600m) at Fannie Bay on Ladies Day.

After being slowly into stride, Hettinger was the tail-ender and many lengths from the lead set by American Jazz through the early and middle stages. He was still last with 500m to run and at least 10 lengths from the lead but Callow didn’t panic and set his mount alight around the field.

American Jazz was under heavy pressure rounding the home turn and his pursuers, with the exception of Hettinger, could not find the necessary impetus. Soon after straightening, Hettinger went past his rivals as if they were tied to the fence and dashed away to win by an ever-widening seven-and-a-quarter lengths.
