Fox steered to victory by Shiers

Century Fox thrust himself even further into Darwin Guineas contention with an authoritative victory in the Garrards Horse and House 3YO Handicap at Fannie Bay on Saturday.
Trained by Dick Leech and with Paul Shiers in the saddle, Century Fox settled back in the field over the 1300m, and with 650m to go had just three runners behind him. However, Shiers was able to pick a path through the field and on the home turn was only about four lengths off the leader Aplomado.
He let down in fine style to go on for a two-length win from Arch Of Titus, who stuck on well after racing handy throughout a long neck back and Perisseuo close-up fourth. The latter pair both turned in eye-catching efforts from back in the field, suggesting the 1600m of the Guineas will be very much to their liking.
The NT (Alice Springs) Guineas (1600m) winner in mid-April, Century Fox then finished a meritorious fifth in the AS Cup won by his stablemate Write your Name at the end of April, and he showed he had returned in first-class order with is first-up effort….
