Fly, as expected, proved far too strong for his rivals in the Shane Kavanagh Memorial Sprint (1100m).
Trained by Gary Clarke and with Jarrod Todd aboard, Fly began well, sat second in the run on the outer of Little Ditty, with Tough Impact close up three wide.
It was clear rounding Silks turn that Fly had the measure of the opposition and he dashed away and was never going to be caught. Ridden out by Todd, he reached the line two lengths to the good of Pleasing Smile, who never stopped trying, with a gap back to Sassy Abbey in third.
Fly, a son of Merchant Navy, has now won twice and been three times placed from eight career starts, and he looks set for a profitable campaign.
Vigar bookended the program when Funnyifitwon got up in the shadows of the post to win the TAB Handicap (1100m), giving trainer Halter a double in the process.
Having his first start since August 30, and back to a 0-58, the son of Starcraft, who had raced in much better company, raced handily behind pacemaker Belyaev, and just when it looked like a minor placing would be his lot, he knuckled down late to get the decision by a short head from the fast finishing New Enterprise. Barsh Lass stuck on well to take third.
Funnyifitwon has obviously benefitted from his break from racing, and the 7yo has now won six times from 27 starts.
