Racing returns to Darwin tomorrow – Saturday, October 3, after a short break for track maintenance.
Darwin Turf Club chief executive Brad Morgan said the routine maintenance happened twice a year.
“This upkeep is crucial to keeping our track in a great condition all year round, and after the recent
rain in the last two weeks, it’s in great condition,” he said.
“We live in a city with extreme weather, so the maintenance ensures that during the wet, there is
adequate drainage and means we can race in almost any weather condition.”
Numbers for this Saturday’s meet are promising, with five races jumping from 3.05pm.
“It’s great to have a strong field of local horses as we head towards spring racing in the southern
states,” Mr Morgan said.
Lexus of Darwin Melbourne Cup packages are now on sale and are selling fast with the Ted Bailey
Grandstand almost at capacity.
“Spring racing is iconic on the Australian sporting calendar and Territorians are lucky they can catch
all the action interstate as well as thrilling local racing right here at the Darwin Turf Club,” Mr
Morgan said.
