Fashion and thoroughbred racing go hand in hand, and nowhere is more renowned for bright, eccentric colours and fashions than Darwin and the Top End.
Punching well above our weight, Darwin’s fashions on the field competitions have stunned racegoers for decades, and remains competitive around the nation.
This year’s Silk Laser Clinics Fashions on the Field will be held over four thrilling days for adults and one days for the kids, through out the Great Northern Darwin Cup Carnival.
AUFS Chief Minister’s Cup (Saturday, 15 July 2023)
This is one for the kids, with boys and girls under 18 invited to take part in a kid’s Fashions on the Field.
There are four unisex age groups for children to compete in:
- Zero to five
- Six to Ten
- Eleven to Fifteen
- Sixteen to Eighteen
All entrants will receive a goodie bag, and the top three of each of the age group will be sashed and win a prize the whole family can enjoy.
Bridge Toyota Ladies’ Day (Wednesday, 19 July 2023)
There are two competitions to be held on Bridge Toyota Ladies’ Day, one in General Admission and the other inside the ticketed Bridge Toyota Ladies’ Day Luncheon.
- Bridge Toyota Ladies’ Day Luncheon
The Bridge Toyota Ladies’ Day Luncheon has been a stand-out for racing fashion for years, and sets the standard for entrants over the remainder of the carnival. A highlight for women in Darwin, the event will shine a light on Darwin’s local ladies, and is highly competitive. Only those with tickets to the Luncheon can enter this event. A millinery award is also up for grabs, for the person with the most unique headwear. The winner can choose to wear that same outfit in the grand final, or change completely.
- General Admission
The General admission competition will be held on the lawns of the Darwin Turf Club, however the winner of this competition does not compete in the final on Darwin Cup Day. Always lots of fun, it’s fantastic to see the ladies of Darwin dress up and enjoy a day of racing just for them.
Ladbrokes Derby Day (Saturday, 22 July 2023)
Black and white reigns supreme this Ladbrokes NT Derby Day. A classic look, judges will want to see how entrants have interpreted the theme in the classic black and white punters and fashionistas have come to know and love about Derby Day.
The winner of this competition will gain automatic entry to the final on Darwin Cup day. They can choose to wear the same winning outfit, or another one.
Great Northern Darwin Cup (Monday, 7 August 2023)
The Great Northern Darwin Cup is known for its bright, colourful and vibrant outfits which suit the Top End lifestyle. Fashions on the day is highly sought after and competitive to get into the final later in the day to compete against the winners of the previous three days racing.
On this day there will also be a millinery winner, over 40s, and a men’s competition.
The theme for this year’s Silk Laser Clinics Fashions on the Field is to be announced, and judges will be looking closely at how entrants interpret the theme, while choosing aesthetically pleasing race day outfits styled with shoes, headwear and accessories. The outfit should reference racing dress codes and current trends, while expressing individual style, sophistication and creativity.
The location and times for all Silk Laser Clinics Fashions on the Field will be released closer to carnival, so please refer to this page for any updates closer to.
