The Top End’s search for the next vocal superstar is on, with the announcement of the 2017 Pitch Perfect competition now open for registrations.
The Darwin Turf Club’s Pitch Perfect competition is a vocal talent contest, accessible to all high and middle school aged students from the Top End and surrounds. This year’s competition will be taking place at The Territory Taste Festival at the Darwin Waterfront on Saturday the 22nd of April 2017 from 10.00am.
Contestants will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of a panel of professional judges and eager onlookers, with the chance to propel themselves into certain stardom. The winner of Pitch Perfect will perform in front of thousands at the Qantas Darwin Turf Club Gala Ball, and the prestigious Chief Minster’s Darwin Cup Carnival Cocktail event. The winners school will also receive $2,000.00 toward their music department.
“In our Top End schools there is an enormous pool of talented musicians” said Marketing and Sponsorship Manager Laura Tucker.
“Each year the judges and audience are blown away by the calibre of the performances”, she said.
“We are proud to showcase the talent of our Top End youth, we hope that offering a stage for their music will bring about opportunities to help them reach the next step in their musical career.” Ms Tucker said.
Past Pitch Perfect winners have gone on from the competition to follow a career in music, 2015 winner Liam Stansfield has gone on to study music in Brisbane and has performed at prestigious events like last year’s NRL Indigenous All Stars Dinner; whilst 2014 star Stevie Jean Kyriacou is now forewoman of the four piece collective Gaia, the band has graced the airwaves of Triple J, and has a cult following both in the Top End and nationally.
To register for the 2017 Pitch Perfect Competition, contestants are asked to apply through their school music departments. Schools are invited to submit up to two students directly to the Darwin Turf Club’s Marketing Department; submission forms can be found at
Registrations close on April 7th at 5.00pm
