Members of the media wishing to cover the Darwin Turf Club races should apply for a daily media pass at least three (3) days before the race meeting. Those wishing to apply for access during the 2017 Carlton Mid Darwin Cup Carnival are required to submit an application form at least (10) ten days prior to the proposed date of access. Only production staff, reporters and those members of the media who are actively working on the day will be granted access passes. Sales staff and/or administrative personnel will not be supplied with access. The Darwin Turf Club reserves the right to remove persons from areas where by the media pass is being used outside of duties and obligations sanctioned by the organisation they represent. Accreditation is limited. To be considered, applications must be signed by the applicants Chief of Staff prior to submission. Accreditation is a means of identification for attendance at particular events and allows access to some restricted areas. It also makes it possible for officials to extend every courtesy to you. The areas of access for media are:
- GENERAL (G) = Access into the racecourse, general public & Members' Areas.
- ACCESS ALL AREAS (AAA) = Access into the racecourse and all areas including the Mounting Yard & Horse Areas.
Media must adhere to the dress codes for the Mounting Yard and Members' Enclosures, set out by the Darwin Turf Club. Clothing will not be provided to meet these requirements.
Breach of Media Accreditation Rules
All accredited media and photographers must obey directions given to them by the Darwin Turf Club Officials and Security staff. Failure to abide by these rules will result in instant revocation of accreditation.
Media Accreditation Rules
Accreditation is non-transferrable Media access lanyards indicate areas of access granted. Lanyards should be worn around the neck. Entrance to the racecourses and areas shall only be permitted upon presentation of a media lanyard Media pass must be signed in and out at the Administration Office Access into the Mounting Yard is strictly limited and will only be granted to media wearing the appropriate DTC media lanyard and vest. Accreditation does not provide access into Corporate Marquee areas. These are invitation-only areas. Accreditation is given for the purpose of undertaking work resulting in media coverage and is not to be used as a 'ticket' into the event. A Media outlet must not cause or permit any Works (or any part thereof ) to be broadcast, published or used other than in a program or publication which is an approved medium for the Accredited Party who created the works.
Betting Ring Areas
TV/film crews and photographers may only film or photograph general atmosphere shots of the betting ring. No filming of individuals transacting wagers is allowed.
The Mounting Yards are areas designed specifically for trainers, horses, jockeys and connections, prior to and after races, and TRNT Officials. Media are privileged to have access to this area and should abide by the rules accordingly. For the safety and security of all concerned, numbers in the Mounting Yard are strictly limited. Local TV networks (camera crews and journalists) will not be permitted to enter the Mounting Yard without prior permission of TRNT officials. Approved photographers must wear an identification vest and lanyard at all times in the Mounting Yard throughout the Darwin Carnival. All media must remain behind the designated barriers, pre and post-races, and follow the directions of TRNT Officials and Security Guards. Mobile telephones may not be turned on or used in the Mounting Yard or in the scales area. Media granted access to the Mounting Yard must dress according to the Members' Dress Regulations.
Filming of Racing
On course film and TV crews must observe the exclusivity arrangement the Darwin Turf Club has with racing broadcaster, SKY Racing. This means refraining from filming any race footage. Application can be made direct to SKY Racing to request release/supply of race footage. SKY as the Darwin Turf Club exclusive broadcaster for the Darwin Carnival, have the exclusive right to broadcast in Australia, which includes the right of first access to the winning connections of all races. Although we understand that TV crews have equipment to carry, the Darwin Turf Club is not in a position to provide car parking as part of media accreditation (except during the Carlton Mid Darwin Cup Carnival).
Photographers' vest and official lanyards will be issued to approved photographers during the Darwin Carnival. These vests and lanyards are required to be worn at all times when in the mounting yard When working in the mounting yard area, photographers must obey the instructions of all Stewards and security staff and must keep a safe distance back from the horse at all times. Photographers must be considerate of all racegoers when gaining the best photographic position and must not obstruct the view of mobile and fixed SKY Racing cameras. Photographers must only take images for editorial purposes unless authorised by the Darwin Turf Club.
