The Hot 100 Guineas Race Day will kick start the 2016 Carlton Mid Darwin Cup Carnival this Saturday 2nd July at Fannie Bay Racecourse. The start of the Diamond Anniversary celebrations, the three-year-olds take the spotlight in the feature race, regarded as one of the blue ribbon events for the class. The victor of the Hot 100 Guineas not only reaps the reward of $70,000 prize money but will also claim the vital first leg of the $100,000 Ladbrokes Triple Crown bonus.

The Ladbrokes Triple Crown bonus rewards the trainer, jockey and galloper combination, strong enough to win the Hot 100 Guineas, the Ladbrokes NT Derby and the coveted Carlton Mid Darwin Cup. Highly sought after yet rarely won, only two thoroughbreds have managed to win all three legs – 1989 legend Brinney and 1996 star Ventilago. All eyes are on the prize this year with a strong three year old visitor contingency.

Action off the track includes the 2016 Pitch Perfect competition held in the Schweppes Pavilion. The high school vocal talent contest has fast become the community focused highlight of Carnival time, with contestants showcasing their talents in front of a panel of professional judges and eager onlookers. The winner of Pitch Perfect will perform in front of thousands at the Qantas Darwin Turf Club Gala Ball, as well as at the prestigious Chief Minister’s Cocktail reception at Parliament House, held in celebration of the Carlton Mid Cup Carnival.

The first day of the Darwin Waterfront Fashions on the Field will see the renowned bright colours and bold designs sweep across Fannie Bay. This year a Touch of Vintage theme is a welcomed addition, tying in with the 60th anniversary celebrations. Further information on the Darwin Waterfront Fashion’s on the Field can found at www.darwinturfclub.org.au.

The Hot 100 Guineas will also see the opening of the ‘Pearl Bar’, a champagne style garden bar which will be open for all eight Days of Carnival. Situated on the Members’ Lawn, entry to the bar is free on Days 1 to 6, with access available on Days 7 and 8 with a Members’ Lawn Pass (dress codes apply).
