2017 Asian United Food Service Chief Minister’s Cup Family Day

This Saturday Fannie Bay racecourse is set to embrace the true meaning of Carnival on the ‘Family Day’ of the Carlton Mid Darwin Cup Carnival. The Darwin Turf Club is promising to transform into a giant playground of endless excitement, colour and fun for all the family. Games and activities are set to compliment the action packed race card

Presented by the Northern Territory’s Chief Minister, Michael Gunner, the $55,000 Asian United Food Service Chief Minster’s Cup is the highlight of the day’s thrilling seven race card. A highly contested piece of silverware in its own right, the race over 1600 meters, is seen by trainers as the ‘proving ground’ for their Carlton Mid Darwin Cup hopefuls.

General admission is free for those under 18. Young patrons will enjoy bouncing castles, face painting, circus games with Fairy Jill, giant games with Kingpin, pony rides and a petting zoo. Thanks to the generosity of Asian United Food Service and the Lay family free ice creams will be handed out.

The season of racing fashion will begin with the Darwin Waterfront Junior Fashions on the Field held on the day. Hosted by Darwin’s favorite comedienne Amy Hetherington, and judged by the NT News fashion writer Georgina Murphy and last year’s Carlton Mid Darwin Cup Ambassador Leanne Scott –Toms.

Categories on the day are under 18 females, under 18 males, under 12 boys and under 12 girls. Children will be competing for the best in school holiday fun with vouchers from Kingpin, Big Buoy Water Park, Thirsty Zac and Trampoline up for grabs.

Darwin Turf Club Marketing and Sponsorship Manager, Laura Tucker is looking forward to the Darwin Waterfront Junior Fashions on the Field. “It was absolutely one of the highlights of last year’s Carlton Mid Darwin Cup Carnival. The outfits were adorable and everyone had an absolute ball”, said Ms. Tucker.

“This year for the first time we have the under 18 categories and I’m looking forward to seeing the stunning, colourful, youth driven fashion on offer in the Territory”, she said.

On Asian United Food Service Chief Minister’s Cup Day there is plenty on offer for the adults. The young at heart can frolic under plentiful shaded lawns, or in the beautiful surrounds of the Pearl Bar. The Pearl Bar will be offering live music with Max Fredericks performing as well as mouthwatering menu options and the exciting new addition of a Pimm’s Bar.
